So I have had a jewel damsel in a 20g

I have another 75 starting up and has been cycling for 2 weeks (fishless). Now that the ammonia is going down I am going to put my jewel damsel in here until I move my 40 gal fish and coral in.

My question…

Is it cruel to move the damsel back to the 20 after cycle due to tank size? Because contrary to bogus statements fish do recognize their surroundings and I don’t want him stressed- i know it’s just a damsel but I’ve had it since it was a baby so I keep my fish happy

If so I am going to move it to the 40 after and need to know if I can put my green spotted puffers with it? Or what should I put with it? Only thing that’s going to stay in 40 is my pistol shrimp.

Thanks for any advice. Or any other ideas let me know.

First - which jewel damselfish do you have? There is one from the Caribbean and two from the Pacific that go by that common name. Do you know the scientific name of your fish?
