Just bought a hob skimmer

Do I also need to keep my marineland penguin filter if I just bought the AquaMaxx 1.5 skimmer for a 42 gallon tank ?? You don’t need both or do you?

The skimmer will provide skimming, but not much for mechanical filtration. Running the HOB filter allows you to run mechanical filtration, along with things like carbon, phosguard, floss, etc... when needed.

Maybe its something that can be run periodically if not needed 24/7.
