okay one thing i like to say about the chinese led fixture is just because they don't have a brand name like a other big boy is but it doesn't mean they have a bad fixture.
they always test the light for u before they sent it out.

Where/how are you guys getting the custom ones?

If people are worried about safety, I could not imagine these being more dangerous than super cheap metal halides running on magnetic ballasts.

I am totally into this. Sure DIY is a little cheaper, but is the little bit worth the hassle of having to DIY

Here is the link for the customizable ones:

D120 led custom layout dimmable led aquarium light for coral reef free air shipping with optics lens-in Pet Products from Home & Garden on Aliexpress.com

You would just pick which color LEDs you want (they have a list of the colors available and a chart for you plot where you want them). I have heard that green and red (if you think they are necessary) should be paired (eg 2 G, 2 R) so that they blend and you don't get a green or red spot light effect. Again, as I have said in previous posts, I would just use a lower temp white, like 6500K, which will provide the red spectrum and get some lower Nm blues 420 (4) and possibly some 400 Nm UV (2) to give it that actinic pop.

My next light purchase will be from them again with those colors listed above and I'll post up some pics of how it looks. It may be after x-mas before it happens though. My GF has my finances on lockdown after I bought a bunch of coral. hahah....

Thank you maybe I will go with these or reef breeders . However if one led burns out what do you do? Becouse I'm not going into the trouble of soldering and all that all so I have bin looking at ocreef what do you think of those? Here's a link http://www.ocreef.com/ocreef_x_seri...h_fixture_display_model_sale?category_id=5086 it comes with a built in timer remote and all that of high end LEDs. If not I'll just go with ais and get them used if I can find any of these.

The ones at Reef Breeders has a warrenty and they do the repair here in the USA.
I've read that when you buy direct from China, that is where you have to send them for repair.

It is a chinese LED that was rebranded by that company. They added a dimmer/timer or had the manufacturer add it. The base light they are using is more than likely this one:

Excellent! Evergrow 200*3 400w Best Led Grow Lights For Sale - Buy Grow Lights For Sale,Led Grow Lights For Sale,Best Grow Lights For Sale Product on Alibaba.com

If I was going to spend that kind of money on a light, I would go with the Maxspect Razor or the Ecosmart Radion because at that price you are no longer talking about cheap lighting. If you are dropping $600+ per unit you might as well get something that is tried and true.

I get that this one unit is designed to light a 4" tank. But the advantage of buying several cheap (e.g. ~$160 per 24" of tank lighting) is that if something goes wrong you can afford to cheaply replace it. When you are dropping that much money I'd want to know it was made in the US and has a factory warranty from a major player.

I personally look at that light like I look at people that put rims and a booming stereo on a Ford Escort. No matter how you fancy it up it'll never be a Mustang. And this will still be an overpriced remarket of a much cheaper light and I seriously doubt they spent the R&D or extra cash buying a quality timer/dimmer unit if they are starting with a cheap light in the first place.

Good luck on whatever you choose :)

Thank you I believe it said after the one year warinty is up they will still fix things for a small price . I don't believe Otis that fixture becouse it's 144 what's and uses Cree LEDs. However I guess you aware right that's why I probably can't find someone who uses the. I looked on Alinbia or whatever it's called and there like 100$ nut how do you order of something like that?

So how many 6500K would you use?

I've been running 2 - 120 Watt Dimmables using the Bridgelux bulbs for about 6 months now over a 90 gallon. Everything has adjusted well and is growing fine. Growth is not as fast as the dual 400 MH's, but pretty good considering the trade off in less heat and power usage.

For what they cost $200 each, I feel it was a great investment compared too some of other options that are out there.

I would probably get them to switch out half the 10000K whites for the 6500K (there are usually 25W and 30B on two channels), so 12 and 13. Add 4 or 8 420nM leds along with two 400nM on the blue channel. I will be ordering a bunch of these once we are past the Christmas ca$h crunch :)

I've been running a 96W dimmable unit from Reef Breeders for 3 months and couldn't be happier with the look and coral growth. It was cheaper than building my own, and it comes fully build with my chosen optics, plus it has a 2 year warranty. Plus, they answered all my questions within minutes on a Sunday. There's a lot to be said for good customer service plus someone here in the states to repair it if it breaks. They have added some more fixtures since I bought mine, so it's definitely worth an email to them to see what they recommend for your system and budget.

I have three of them on my 280 72x36x24 with great success fastest SPS growth I've had with any lighting yet. I will say however I added 2 ATI blue plus bulbs one front one back of leds to supplement the color. This combo of t5/led is the best lighting I've seen yet and I honestly have always been a coral snob who would have never believed these ebay fixtures would work so well at growing corals. This was not an established tank with lighting changed out but was started with this lighting.
