I am thinking of adding Vinegar to the Kalk I top off with, but I do not run a protein skimmer and I am worried that it will act as a carbon source in the tank and cause an algae bloom that I can not skim out.

I mix the ATO top off water with 2 tsp per 1 gallon container and drip it weekly into a 5 gallon container of already made up kalk water and the tank loses about 1 gallon of water a week.

I want to keep this set up as simple as possible and if I can use a more effective and stable Kalk makeup I would like to, but if I have learned anything it is take things slowly and ask questions before you make any changes.

its possibly yes it could but i think its highly unlikely in such small ammounts. with no skimmer regular water changes and a good mechanical filter should be more than sufficient for what your talking about.
