Hi all,

I bought a little school of 5 TB kauderni’s 8 weeks ago. The first month or so everything went fine, they were eating and living in peace with each other.

However, after the first month the group kauderni’s was bullying one after another of their own to dead.

Now I am left with the last 3 of them, the biggest one of these 3 is bullying the other 2, problably to dead.

What could have gone wrong? I have read this was one of the easiest and peaceful fish to start with.

Tank is a Red Sea 525 XL. The other tankmates are 2 amphiprion ocellaris and 2 cleaner shrimps.

The thing that went wrong is information about this fish being able to live in groups is wrong. These guys only form groups as juveniles to remain safe within a long spine urchin’s spines (hence the pattern). As Kauderni’s age, they tend to fight over territory and not stop until there is only 1 or a pair left, it could be likely you have 3 males that are fighting over territory.
This species is best kept singularly or in pairs, groups rarely ever work out even in the largest tanks.
