I have a 90g mixed reef, no sps yet though. The tank has a center brace and the lights are centered in the 2 halves. I have the 2 light fixtures connected through the X controller. I have the lights 6 1/2" from the top of the water.

My issue is the light bleeds way over the front of the tank. To the point that my 4 month old sons swing that is 6 feet away facing the tank, the light would hit him right in the face.

Should I lower the lights even more? Should I back them up toward the wall though they would no longer be centered?

Could you move them out toward the front of the tank and point them back toward the rear of the tank a few degrees?

They don't pivot like the older style.

Anyone else have any suggestions? So far I feel like I'm going to have to make some kind of hood the blocks the lights from bleeding. The spread of light is pretty amazing but in this case I'm not crazy about it. It's lighting up my floor over 6 feet away.

The spread is doing more good than you may realize. Some bleed is expected, a hood could obviously help (if you like the look). Lowering the lights may help, but if you lower till there is no spill the top of the tank will be very unevenly lit (IME at least).

Thank you for the reply. I'll have to play around with them. I don't want a full canopy. My idea was to build sort of a half canopy myself that I can easily take off and on but still blocks the light. Again this room we now use for our newborn and had basically become unusable because the light is spreading right into the baby's face because his swing and other things sit lower than regular chairs ect.

Is that the gooseneck? Cause I would simply angle them slightly away like was suggested. Also is that your center brace in the photo?

No, not the gooseneck. This is the newer style and does not bend. That is the old marine orbit LED light. I just didn't take it down yet as I was trying to figure this issue out. And the other is a t5 fixture.

Side question, You have exhaust fans going outside right? Just looking out for the little guy. I get dizzy just being around my tank in my guest bedroom.

What about them makes you dizzy? These you can even hear them.
I’m not sure. The fumes from evaporation, it also gives me some numbness in my legs if I’m in there to long. My wife has the same symptoms in that room. My 90 that is ventilated on the other hand gives us no issues.

Perhaps you should consider using the gooseneck style tank mounts for the directional capability. I like the goose mounts for this purpose.

In hindsight yes this is what I should have done. At this point though, I'm not breaking everything down, boxing it back up and shipping it back. I'll figure something out.

I'm sorry, I'm just trying to get this straight because our 4 month old hangs out there sometimes.

So you mean the fan pulls in air and you get fumes somehow from that?

The room I have issues with has no fan. If you have a fan that blows air outside or out of the room, or a fan blowing outside air into the room you won’t have an issue. If you look at an ICP test these scary elements like arsenic are being aerosolized to some extent.
Besides that your pods are also all over your floor. Amphipods will go outside the tank and back in. Just like they do in tide pools. I would just be careful with a new born, coming from a son of a OBGYN who listened while growing up.

I had the same problem. But my are mounted with gooseneck. I moved them toward the front of the tank and angle them toward the rear.

Put some fly paper around your tank for 24 hours. You will want to throw up.

What about a simple piece of angled cardboard / stiff paper that can be spray painted once you forgive out the correct angle / configuration?

We did this on a job site to a motion detector that was picking up motion in a hall.

Wow that is crazy. Never knew that. Thanks. He doesn't sleep in there at night but he hangs in there to watch the fish from time to time.
