hi guys, in your opinion for a full sps reef 48"x24"x24" with a rockscape along the entire length of the reef can 2x A360x + Acquatic Life hybrid structure be enough? or is it necessary to have 3x kessil a360x? in askbrstv video I only saw a par measurement with 1xa360x + Acquatic Life hybrid structure but on a small 24x24” reef. which setting should I use to have 300 par (are sufficient this value?) at 12 "below the water level where many of my acroporas are concentrated?

Depends on your aquascape. You do not need the whole tank to be lit equally, rather the right par in the right place. Even for SPS this is the case. Some want 400+ par, others prefer much lower. Start with 2, then if you see a need for more add another.

Every coral is unique, even each specimen. Tenius like WD or HW like really high par (300-400). Stylo, monti, setosa... 100-300. Lps 100-250.

If that is the tank/ aquascape I would go 3. Rent a par meter and you may need to add a 4th.

It's more than enough. I just took mine down (2 A360x's and the t5 setup), was runnning up to 600 par 6 inches down, 400's 12 inches deep. Was baking non sps. on the floor.

I grew lots of SPS with just 3 kessil A360x’s over a 6’ tank for years and just recently upgraded to an aquatic life LED t5 hybrid a little under 2 months ago. Kessil can grow SPS. I never worried about “par” even if knowing it was important.

What is your light schedule? Can you show me your reef? Why did you add the acquaticlife hybrid fixture?

I’ll have to show the light schedule when I get home lol
But I added it because eventually after some decent coral growth you’ll need to Combat the shading that will occur from all that GROWTH lol

I talked to the kessil guys at Reefapalooza. And asked the for recommendation of 360x’s with no supplementation over a 120 gallon tank. 48x24. The guy told me the have an LFS near thier office running 3 360x’s over a 120 with heavy sps growth. I’m still on the fence about weather or not to supplement but I’m planning on running (4)360x over my 120.

I’m pretty close to having the kessils hit 100% intensity at the peak but I’ve been doing it slowly, but then stopped because now I’ve added the T5 hybrid and I ran it for an hr the first week, 2 the second etc. until I hit 4 hrs and I run that during the peak intensity of the kessils. Eventually I’ll have the kessils at 100% during peak intensity(Very close at 94%)
The kessil spectrum at peak intensity is the BRS recommended spectrum blend and it is definitely visually appealing and the corals definitely like it too.

some of these corals I’ve broken a few times with my dang arms in the water or have gotten chomped on by probably my flame angel but I’ve gotten pretty good growth. I’ve got other corals too and even nursed a bleached nem Back to health that was sold to me DYED(I didn’t know at the time) and now has fulll natural tentacle coloration and is beginning to get green at its base and bluish tips(excited to see what it turns out to be because they sold it as a rose bubble tip. But I did all this with just 3 kessils over a six foot tank with no water changes and no dosing pump. Just barely set that up 3 days ago lol

Its gotten some big it killed that dragon soul favia and those acans that were next to it.the drag plugs wouldn’t come off so I could move them! Saved these tho

started with 3 heads. Basically man I’m an advocate for kessil. It’s all I know cuz I started with them. But my tank has been pretty successful even tho I’ve had minor set backs but Those are learning curves lol. I lost a good sized acro colony recently because my ATO pump quit working when I was away on vacation and I came back home with salinity at 1.027 but everything else was fine except that one acro and it got RTN when I was trying to slowly yet quickly lower the salinity. But other than that simplicity and stability with good flow and lighting has been the key. I buy everything small frags so my reef has been growing like crazy but still hasn’t filled in yet and I still plan on packing it with more SPS corals that I’m sure the kessils will grow no problem.
