I’ve got 3 Kessil ap9x ‘s for 300 gallon reef. I love the lights. I clean them often but they still give me overheating issues and are quite a pain in the umm neck…. They stop working after about two years. With the amount of money I have spent I expect them to live longer. Before these I had Kessil ap700. Again great light but the brains behind them not so much. Out of 3 light they die one after another. Any suggestions for my next go around?

I am a big kessil fan. I have a variety of lights, including an A360 from 2012 that is still running. I am guessing you are having overheating issues due to ventilation issues. If you want to avoid this problem, then I would look at some fanless options. AI Blades and Zetlight Q Mavens and ReefBrite come to mind.

With no fan the cooling system is much simpler and you will likely have fewer issues.

Are they kept in a closed canopy? They shouldn't overheat unless the fans stop working or there's something blocking them from working.

Yes in a “closed canopy “. It is vented with separate fans blowing on them and an exhaust fan blowing the hot air out. My tanks cooling system blows cool air into the tanks inclosure keeping the water at a solid 77 degrees.. but yes I need an entire room for my tank. Unfortunately I don’t have that option right now

Do you have access holes right above each fixture’s fan? Allowing the lights to freely vent and cool themselves is the key. Do you have pics of your setup?
