I've said hi in another post so I hope you don't mind but I figured seeing as I joined MTRC I would start a thread about me and my tank... Mostly the tank, so you guys can get to know me a little.
My name is Kevin Anderson
I'm 28yo fixing to be 29 the 8th
I've been married for almost 4 years... Currently laid off and on UI :-( And I'm an addict... A salt addict lol.
I decided the beginning of January of this year I wanted to start a fowlr tank because my wife's planted tank was such a success
So I look on craigslist and there was a "30 gallon saltwater tank" on there for about a month for $250 didn't say what it came with and here is the pic that they had posted :-(
Ok so I offered $150 and they agreed. Well got there and the tank had been drained and the rock and dead snails were I'm a bucket all dried up and the sand in another. Everything and I mean everything had a thick white buildup on it. tank glass is scratched up some. came with
penguin bio wheel 200 with chewed up impeller, hydor cir pump not sure the size, coralife dual PC fixture with only one good bulb the 10k, chorale digital power center new in box, coralife 65 skimmer, 100 watt stealth heater that I got the manufacturer to replace due to recall and they sent me a 150watt Mainland visi therm heater and a fish net.
I cleaned everything the best I could
The tank turned out to be a 36 gallon now front. I built a homemade stand and also made a lid out of eggcrate
I bought a 225gph power filter with built in surface skimmer from drsfostersmith
Bought a second 500gph cir pump a maxi jet 400
Digital thermo
460 bulb
hydrometer that was not right so I bought a refractometer, saltwater master kit, and other stuff
I got it all setup and was told to use the snail shells to cycle and I add 2lbs live rock. And when ammonia stated showing I added a bottle of bio spira and within 10 days from the date I setup it was done cycling wow. I figured the shells and the old sand was my ammonia source.
since then this is what I've added
2 fancy occ clownfish
2 blue green chromis
Brittle stars and mussels as hitchhikers
Anthelia waving hand as a hitchhiker
Devils hand leather
Duncan
Candy cane coral
Frogspawn
Kenya tree
Cabbage leather
Mushrooms
Pulsating xenia
Blasto
Polythoas
Green candy cane
More xenia
More cabbage
More Kenya tree
More devils hand leather
Dragons eye
Birdsnest
this tank has came a long way in a amazingly short time but it was not by no means easy
