Is 10 drops of cupramine day for 4 days good to raise the copper?
Calculating the total number of drops needed is a bit tricky. Most tanks are not full sized. A 10 gallon may only actually be 9. So it's good to know the actual size in gallons to help you with the correct dosage.
That being said, with Cupramine, they on the bottle suggest you use two big doses to get to therapeutic. It can be pretty hard on some fish. I prefer to calculate the total number need to reach therapeutic and do smaller doses. For example: a small dose in the AM, lunch, PM, etc. until you reach therapeutic. This gives you the opportunity to observe and see the reaction of your fish to the copper. For Velvet you need to get to therapeutic within 24 hours because they reproduce so rapidly; for Ich 3-4 days is usually fine unless it's a really bad infestation.

So maybe 5 drops twice a day until I reach a therapeutic level?

So Cupramine suggest 20 drops X 2 for a 10 gallon tank. For a total of 40 drops, if the tank is in fact 10 gallons. So if you were treating for Velvet in 24 hours you would need to have dosed 40 drops total. (In my small 10 gal QT, I've usually reached therapeutic at around 36-37 drops.) So 4 doses of 10 in 24 hours spread out equally would give you time to observe for a bad reaction from your fish.

+1 ^

Sorry to hear about your tang. I followed the exact same breakdown when I medicated my fish with Cupramine. Good luck!

So maybe 5 drops twice a day until I reach a therapeutic level?

This is what I do usually in my 20g QT, when treating prophylactically. It usually takes 4-5 days to get there at this rate. I test right before my evening dose, in case I need to give it few extra drops to account for any absorption.

For velvet, you’ll need to go a bit faster than this. Seems like you are on the right track. I’d still recommend testing at least daily.

No API doesn’t work best with Cupramine. Hanna Checkers or Seachem makes a copper test.
Is this velvet too?

It does look like it could be velvet along with a possible secondary bacterial infection. Cupramine is effective against velvet as long as you’re at therapeutic levels.

You can also dose Kanaplex and furan to the water column but make sure copper levels are correct as velvet is the priority to treat,

Both of those are safe to use with copper?

Yes both medications can be combined with copper. Address the velvet issue immediately as that is critical. Once your fish adapt to the copper, I’d add the Kanaplex and furan a few days later.

Sorry for your loss. The Images of the clowns look like possible Brooke. How are you testing your copper? Levels need to be .5ppm with cupramine to to be completely effective against the parasite.
