It's not worth the risk to stay if you are in an evac zone. Even a great reef tank can be rebuilt.

I think it is likely my brothers house has burned down, but he has safely fled.

Good luck to all in the fire zone!

(it’s absolutely awful how many iconic landmarks have burnt down along with the sheer loss and tragedy associated with it all)

Just saw this on the news, fire is such a horrible devastating thing to deal with and LA seems to have been hit with it so much these last few years. Like you said as long as your safe thats all that matters. Hopefully his house is safe.

The fire from above looked like a volcano eruption. It reminds me of Pompeii.

I hope everyone will be safe. I hope your brother’s house is fine. If not, I hope he finds a place to stay and is able to rebuild. This is horrible.

I’m out here in south OC in southern California. We’ve had some horrendous fires this past summer but luckily it never reached us.

But it got me thinking. What would hurt hard would be leaving some of the fish that have been with the family for many years. For me personally, the corals would not impact me the same way.

If there was time I wonder if bucketing some of the fish would be something I should plan?

Do others consider this?

Of course if there was no time and evac was mandated or even suggested there’s probably no time in the hustle and stress of that situation.

You could plan for it. Maybe a setting up a cooler with a battery operated air pump with stone? I'm at SGV and the air quality is bad that I shut all entrances and windows shut and running the air filter. My pH is gonna suck much worse today.

I'm sorry to hear about your family but glad they got out of there safely!
