Hi folks, working on my Lagoon 50ext build and would really appreciate feedback on my plumbing mockup/purchase list below!

Display Tank: IM Lagoon 50g EXT
Sump: Triton 26" V2

I'm not 100% on the line runs - mostly hoping to be sure I order enough fittings/pipe to more flexibly run my lines once I have the tank/sump on a stand in front of me.

Mockup:

Drain - 1”90° Elbows10$38
Drain - 1”45° Elbows4$18
Drain - 1”Gate Valve1$36

Return - 3/4”Unions4$24

Return - 3/4”Hose Barb1$10
NATeflon Tape1$6
NARatcheting PVC Cutter1$20
NAVice Clamps1$20
NAPurple PVC Primer+Glue1$12
Total$358
*Note: I increased my PVC/fittings QTYs by at least 2 parts/each to be safe.

Also have two questions:
  1. If my PVC is schedule 40, can my fittings (elbows/unions/couplers) be schedule 80? Or do they need to be the same schedule?
  2. What is the best fit type? Thread X Thread, Slip X Thread or Slip X Slip? I'd imagine Thread x Thread is best but would rather ask than be sorry.

You asked. It seems like you may be 'overcomplicating' things. (Take this from someone thats not a huge fan of 'PVC' - for various reasons). It seems like you may have too many 'unions' - for what purpose are all of them? I'm not sure why (since you have silicone tubing coming up from the sump and down into the sump on both sides), that you need the extra little piece of PVC - why not just extend the Silicone down from the manifold on one side and the gate valve on the other? I have heard that the more PVC one uses, the more likely for 'tin' problems. I have found the best results (though its not as 'pretty'), just using silicone tubing entirely. Unless you are going to be taking everything apart all the time, I (my personal preference) would be to get rid of some of the extra stuff. Either way - good luck with your tank. Another comment - many people love manifolds, others have had nothing but problems. My tank - if I need another pump - I just add another pump rather than the constant adjusting.
