Since I am running out of lanthanum chloride to remove phosphates from my aquarium, and the market price (shortage) in my country for 0.1 kg is about 70 dollars:dizzy-face:, I have a question....

I cannot think of any lanthanum source that is going to be less expensive than lanthanum chloride, but if you have something else available, such as lanthanum carbonate or lanthanum oxide, I can give a recipe.

You might consider soluble iron dosing. A number of folks do that (such as glennf).

It seems to me that we did not understand each other... because of the barrier language.

I mean, not a recipe for dosing lanthanum or anything else made of lanthanum, but for making lanthanum chloride itself - that is, disassembling it into reagents and putting it together. I think it will be easier to buy those reagents. I just don't know which ones are involved in the reaction...

I did understand that is what you are asking, I just don't think it is going to be useful.

Just to be clear, one cannot make lanthanum out of materials that do not contain lanthanum. It is an element. Like carbon or nitrogen.

How is the precipitation removed? Skimming, socks, or settled out somewhere in the tank?

I have no idea. Some folks seemingly have good success, but it is more more biologically active than is lanthanum, which may have pros and cons at high doses.

Precipitate is not removed, as I understand it, but I've not read details of many folks using it.

But if it is highly concentrated, it is already a “precursor” and only it can be sold under license :(

If you need highly concentrated hydrochloric acid, I think... Perhaps there will be options if I agree with the laboratory to make a batch according to your recipe... :thinking-face:

It need not be high at all. The higher it is, the more concentrated you can make the dosing solution, which typically is not needed.

0.1 N will be fine. If you add lanthanum oxide to it until no more dissolves (about 11 g/L) it will be 0.033 M (4.6 g/L or 4,600 ppm).

Next, to understand what concentration I need to dose, I need to determine the current dosage of the reagent LaCl3*7H2O

Where, LaCl3*7H2O dissolved 12.1 g in 1 liter of water

Please calculate that the concentration between them is the same)

That product is 37.2% lanthanum, so 12.1 g in 1 L is 4500 ppm lanthanum.

The recipe I gave is coincidentally nearly identical.

I assumed something like that, but I thought I hadn't calculated something yet, so it turned out almost exactly the same :)

Just curious, when combining these reagents, we get the chemical formula... HCl + La2O3 = ... ?
