Lanthanum Dose Injection into Skimmer

Like many other things around here, I don't think anyone for a fact knows why, they just know too much at a time can effect them. I know from past experiences that it can also effect Yellow Tangs.

I’ve found the best way to use lanthanum in aquariums with more sensitive critters is to dose slowly, over time. Rather than, say dosing 10ml, all at once. Dose 1ml per hour for 10 hours

Like others already said, I dose into filter socks, 10 micro at least, but do have a 1 micron sock that I use every now and then.

I drip about 10ml of Lanthum mixed with a gallon of RODI into my overflow, this gets me more reaction time with the tank water.

I found that if you put one of the larger socks inside your 10 micron you get a bit more time before the smaller micro sock clogs up.

If others are dosing direct into the skimer, I may have to check that out, sounds interesting!

I’m guilty of dumping LaCl into the skimmer head, but at a fifth of recommended dose every other day after I emptied my skimmer cup.

I dose it directly in front of my wavemaker. Is there any drawbacks in doing this method? I’ve been doing it for a while.

Ive dosed this for years with amazing results. I too add it to my skimmer but I drilled a small hole in the skimmer cup cover and ran a hard air line down to the bottom of the reaction chamber and let it churn out all the phos. I always fought phos and tried different methods, this always worked out the best. I use a doser to add it directly to the skimmer daily. I only use about 10 ml a day but adjust as the need be up or down to maintain my phos levels. My mixture is 5ml of lanathum per half gallon of water.

Came across this today while doing some research for automatic dosing of LC.

Are you mixing your LC with RO water then dosing into your skimmer? My hope is to mix LC with RO water and dose it daily but I have heard that LC is much heavier then water and can just sink to the bottom if not mixed.

Understand that but it would just flow thru?
Sorry I don't get it because even in the skimmer it flows into the tank the back into the sump thru the socks if you use them.
I put it into my sock and seemed to work fine idk

Stop taking advice from any person or site that claims that any dissolved chemical (such as dissolved lanthanum) actually settles in water. It never, ever happens outside of very large organic molecules in an ultracentrifuge.

The random thermal motion keeps all dissolved chemicals from settling or rising.

Then that was my only worry.... that info came from a pretty reputable podcast.

So I've been using Seaklear lanthanum chloride for years by adding a few drops here and there in my overflow. I want to automatically dose it into my skimmer to keep Po4 stable since it's been slowly going up over the past few months.
@Randy Holmes-Farley do you have a recommendation for the amount of Lanthium Chloride to add to a 1-gallon jug to slowly dose that over a month's time, or will this be just try and adjust based on my results?
