Latest measurements - NO3 up to 7 mg/L. I´ll start DOC dosing again - 12 ml/day

This mornings measurements indicate strongly that the event happens last time I quit the DOC dosing not was a random event.

I suspect

I have a high production rate of NH3/NH4 in my aquarium, hence a high production of NO3 because nitrification is the only contributor in an ecosystem to NO3 as I know it. All production of NH3/NH4 is probably not because of external contribution (feeding) - it seems like it is a rather high internal production by bacteria in the decomposing process

I have also a high denitrification rate in my aquarium and its depended of adding an external DOC source - in my case ethanol.

The denitrification probably take place in my reversed flow DSB because addition of DOC is done in the bottom layers of my DSB

HI782 High Range Nitrate Checker works well and is a useful tool for NO3 determination in salt water as long as you look more at trends than the absolute value

Measurements from this morning

Its the same pattern as before - now I need to tune it in around the 2 mg/L I want. The DOC dos today is 12 ml 8% Ethanol - 310 L gives around 4 ml 8% per 100 L - If translated to ml Vodka (40%) per 100 L - it corresponds to around 0.8 ml vodka per 100 L. I inject it in my plenum below my reverse flow DSB and my flow through this bed of around 38 L coral gravel (100 cm L. 15 cm W and 25 cm H)

Interresting following your NO3 measurements related to the DOC dosing
How about the P or PO4 values ?
I carbon doseing too, but my NO3 value seems more stabile, but the level of inorganic phosphorus (measurable P or PO4) change if I change the daily dose. I only measure weekly

I´m sorry to say that I loose my second Deresa clam yesterday - It has not been good for a rather long time but I thought it was going better but yesterday it die. I do not know why because all known parameters are good and I did some WC two weeks ago. It was going south before the WC, the WC is not to blame. I still have one left and it looks well.

Update - this morning 1.0 mg/L NO3 Hanna High range Checker. Two days ago I did a double reading. Hanna High range and Hanna low range checkers - result was 1.53 mg/L for the High range and 2.31 mg/L for the low range. Hanna High range is easier to manage and do tests with and will be the one I use for routine measurements.
