Hello, have a lavender tang I got about 3 weeks ago from a LFS. For the last week or so, noticed some white spots so got into a quarantine tank but now noticing browning around eye and side. Does anyone know what this is?

Looks to be bacterial/fungus
What is age of tank and how did you acclimate fish and for how long?
What is your salinity-ammonia-ph-nitrate level and what type of filtration?

I just got home and saw pics on my large screen and I see one eye cludy. Can you post additional pics of that eye?
Treatment would be seachem neoplex if bacterial but want to be sure before recommendations.

Display tank has been up for 4 months, started from scratch. Full sump, filter sock, protein skimmer, carbon, and gfo.
Drip acclimation for 2 hours or so.
Salinity is .024
Ammonia is .5 ppm
Ph is 8.0
Nitrate is 10 ppm
Nitrite is 0 ppm

This helps. I see on the fish what looks like trematodes that are worm- like.
The eye is hazed over also and needs to be treated. If fish is not breathing heavily, you can give it a 5 minute freshwater bath which offers temporary relief from attached objects which some should fall off. Do this in a CLEAN bucket of tap water the same temperature as display tank and return fish to display or treatment tank if one os now set up.
As I am Not positive on attached objects, will get @Jay Hemdal to chime in

Would bath be better in RODI water or tap, have both. There also appears to be some fin loss on fin on same side as hazed eye. That was not present when I brought the fish home and appears to be from whatever this is. Is not breathing heavy and is continuing to eat well.

Tap is sufficient. Again bacterial affecting skin, fins and eyes

If your ammonia is 0.5 ppm - that is a potential problem. I would double-check that - with a different test - to be sure.

You should have zero ammonia. 0.5 of free ammonia is toxic.

Might be api, which will give bad readings like that.
No API does not give 'bad readings like that' - unless there is an error. IMHO. But - in any case - thats why I suggested to verify it - with a separate(different test0;0

What test would you suggest? Yes am using API.
API does not give bad readings when used properly. However, a color that's slightly green but not enough to match the 0.25 color can be assumed zero. If you're getting into the 0.5 color range, that is definitely a potential problem.
(Helpful tip: always close the test tube with the cap provided and don't use your finger to cover it while shaking. I know the API caps tend to leak a little, but it's been shown that using your finger/thumb, etc. can mess up the reading. This is for any API test, not just ammonia)
