Hey. I added a kenya tree about a month ago. Was doing really well, opening completely, polyps out etc..Looking really healthy. It's been closed for the last week or so. All of my other corals seem happy. All my parameters are where they normally are. The only thing that has changed is that I added a tribal blenny to the tank. I haven't seen him nipping at it and it doesn't look like it's being nipped at but that is the only thing that has changed. Is this normal for leathers or should i be concerned? Thanks

Kenyii tree will shrink up just like other soft corals and leathers. They do it to cleanse themselves, But also they do best under light and water flow and require current. Keep in mind also as with most leathers, Kenyii Tree and other leathers sometimes shed a waxy film to rid their surfaces of attached algae or detritus. They may remain closed for a few days before shedding this film but it is usually a normal process. Strong water flow can help slough off the film layer.
The other reason may be the tree dropping buds to start new ones.

My leather and kenya are sensitive to ph and alk drops. Chart your ph and see if it occurs at the low points. I range from 8.1 to 7.85. Sometimes if it dips lower than 7.85 I notice them close and shrink.
