Hi

I've recently added a leather toadstool to my tank and it was fully expanded and open for a few days and looked happy. But for the past few days it has closed right up

Any ideas?

These corals can be very temperamental sometimes. Assuming your parameters are within reason just provide the coral with plenty of light and a lot of chaotic flow and it should open up in no time. Also, these corals will shut down & shed a waxy layer from time to time. That might be what's going on here. The link below goes into some detail about this I believe. GL

I agree. I have two, one in each tank. Sometimes they stay closed for days on end and then open right up. I noticed if debris builds up on them or if there is is inadequate flow, they go on strike.

I also agree-it looks like its going to/already shed.
Mine has done that-as soon as it went into my tank and maybe once since

Agree with all above. Mine does that at least once a week. They are very hardy. Don't mess with it - she will be fine.

This is it 7 days later....

Is this normal?

Also, not sure what the tube to the bottom left is? This seems to open and close periodically. This has always been here.

Just grow it: Have you ever added CO2 to your reef tank?
