Hello to All! I am writing to get opinions on "side lighting," by which I mean supplemental lighting hung half-way down the tank, across the front glass.
Any thoughts on this approach? I have heard numerous things in the past, such as increased algae potential, as well as being a nuisance to fish and perhaps contributing to "forward" (horizontal) coral growth, rather than vertical growth. BUT, there must be some awesomeness about this approach as well!
My tank is 30 gallons, 36" inches wide by 18" inches tall - it is lit by a 165W (chinese) full spectrum LED system, from the top. And, then I have this Current USA strip light, which I think is minimal wattage, perhaps 24w, which I have suspended by chains to the front of the aquarium.
Yes, it blocks the view, but it is removable for viewing, and it can also be adjusted up and down the face of the tank, for variable lighting. Because it has the ramp timer, I could also deliver blue vs white (or combo) light to any vertical location in the tank.
