Leopard wrasses have become my new obsession, recently discovered that with the right care I can keep them alive and they seem to thrive in my tank.

However, I’m a bit of a newb when it comes to ID’ing Leopard Wrasses, and sometimes they aren’t labeled very well. I have what I believe is a Meleagris, but it was sold to me just as a leopard wrasse.

Here’s another one on DD, the description isn’t very clear, just wondering if anyone can ID? It’s also listed as Meleagris?

Thanks for any help.

You have a regular female leopard wrasse (Melgaris). One from the divers den looks like a orante leopard wrasse. Male melgaris has blue body (I have both male and female)

That’s a female Macropharyngodon meleagris, sometimes called the common or white leopard wrasse . The LA picture is a male M ornatus, or the ornate leopard wrasse.

Do all Ornates look like that and have the orange color on their head, or is that a particularly nicer looking one?

Or is it the males have the orange color?

Yes. You, the OP, has a female M. meleagris. I have a thread on photo documentation of Meleagris Leopard sex change somewhere. Look it up if you are interested.
