Hi,
Sorry the picture/video quality is not great( they're in a bucket) I was transferring my fish from qt about to go into dt when I noticed my puffer has like a lesion near his tail. I'm assuming I nead to put all the fish back into qt? What else do I need to treat with? I already did copper, prazi, and kanaplex. Puffer seemed healthy other than swimming a little weird sometimes. Idk if this is a lesion from trauma from catching it.

This looks to be a physical injury and to prevent infection, I recommend immediate treatment using seachem Neoplex or kanaplex and assure it’s healing and not getting worse

Are you sure it didn’t have this lesion before you captured it to move it? It doesn’t look like a fresh injury to me, but maybe?

It looks like it might be infected. I’d move it back to the QT and dose with kanamycin again, especially if your previous kanamycin treatment wasn’t for the full six days. You could also try neomycin, but be sure your WT doesn’t have copper in it, because it can react with copper.

Didn’t any other fish attack it? How come this looks a bit like it got bitten by a fish?

That looks more like a physical injury than something I’d try to diagnose from the photo alone. I’d keep the puffer in QT and watch closely for worsening or signs of infection.

Infection and does not matter how it happened in the end. Fish has an open wound.

As Vette and Jay stated Neoplex, or Kanaplex. And one side note, make sure to keep the water clean. Bacteria can cause trouble on open wounds.

Oh and yes keep it in the QT tank.

Thank you for responding. To be honest I'm not sure I only noticed it after capturing. My qt aquarium walls had a bit of algae on them so it's possible I missed it. I did 3 doses of the kanaplex again and the wound is the same. I had to move them to do a different qt and I did get a better video. Do all the other fish have to stay in qt at this point? I will try the neomycin next. Thanks!

Thank you! I did try the kanaplex but its not getting better I did the 3 doses. Thats the third time Ive done the series of 3 doses kanaplex in this qt tank. I will try neoplex next

Please post a new pic or two of how it looks today

I took a video here thank you for viewing. Kind of interesting the lesion is bilateral
Video does not play. Please try a you tube version

Selecting an antibiotic to use is always a guess (unless a veterinarian performs a drug sensitivity test). Kanamycin and Neoplex are both broad spectrum, gram negative antibiotics (and this is almost assuredly a gram negative infection). There are, of course, other antibiotics you could try, but avoid the "-cyclines" as these don't work well in seawater due to interference with the calcium.

What you should look for is an antibiotic that slows, and then stops the growth of the lesion - actual healing of the lesion can takes weeks to a month.

This is unlikely to be anything that would be contagious to your other fish.
