Let Me ID Your Wrasse!

Pretty sure this one was correctly labeled, just figured id check with the pros.
Paracheilinus carpenteri? Got him on sale. Only flasher I've had since a Paracheilinus mccoskeri a long time ago. Sorry for the bad photos, I tried. LOL.

All I can tell you is that is a juvenile, either Coris or Halichoeres, but not one of the commonly kept species. The spots on the dorsal will most likely go away as it ages, as will the spot on the caudal peduncle, though they can be useful for id purposes. Also significant to help id, is that the belly is white, the anal fin is solid yellow/orange, and the head appears to be a different tone than the body. As it grows it may drastically change colors.

County of origen can also help narrow it down a bit as well.

Was also thinking halichoeres or coris, he was caught on the east coast of South Africa. Difficult age. About 3 cm now

I would lean toward Halichoeres nigriscens, but I have never seen juvenile pics of one.

Looks close to that. Yellow tinge in the fins too

It's C. scottorum, but that's a pretty unique pattern it has.

Doesn't look like a Lubbock's to me. This is a job for one of the wrasse masters.

Definitely not a lubbocks. Without seeing the anal fin completely, I will lean strongly toward Paracheilinus angulatus, the royal flasher. This is an immature male.

It's a chiseltooth wrasse, Pseudodax moluccanus, they are pretty peaceful, and can get up to 8".
