There are just so many juvie Halichoeres that start off with that pinstriping that it can be a real challenge.

Yup, 1st is scott's and 2nd is exquiste, looks like from Australia, but could be from adjacent Coral Sea.

What type of leopard wrasse is this? Male or female? I've had it for about 6 months now. It's getting big. I always see leopard wrasses, but they always look a little different. Maybe it's not a leopard wrasse... Lol

Its C. rubripinnis, the colors will get a little more distinct, but this one is already a male so not too much more of a change.

There's some potential for the coloration to improve a lot, but most likely it'll get just a bit better.

Yeah, it's certainly C. filamentosus. It's not all that uncommon for them to get the dark "cap" that one has; but not the norm.

Agree; there's always subtle cues on the juvi Halichoeres, but it takes a clear photo to see them.
