Sold as a McCosker’s flasher wrasse but the tail seems wrong

A hybrid: P. flavianalis x P. filamentosus

That's P. mccoskeri

Thank you! This wrasse is going in with a P.flavianalis. Is it going to be too closely related in your opinion for aggression to settle down?

Sounds dicey... They may see another as the same species.

Hey, just picked this guy up at the lfs and I think it was mislabeled and was wondering if you could help me out. They said it was a blue head fairy wrasse.

A female of the cyanopleura complex.
I'd venture that is in fact cyanopleura, but it's really tough to say with certainty at this point.

Correct. :)

are all leopards/pencils/tamarins reef safeish on par with the smaller halichoeres? at least the commonly kept ones that aren't giant

there's some tiny baby black mollies in the tank with the pencil so i'm curious to see what comes of that.. lol

They're actually much safer/better than Halichoeres in that regard.

Well, sure - the large tamarins at maturity can be a different story.

I really wouldn't worry much there at all - I'd be pretty shocked if they went missing.
