Likely female, but could be a transitional male.Do you know if male or female?
It's near impossible to ID the two species apart at this stage. But, I haven't seen any collection of efatensis for quite some time now - not sure why.![]()

I know it’s a hooded, but it’s bathyphilus and not efatensis right?
And what clues to look for in regards to transition to male?
thanks!
C. adornatusSome sort of fairy wrasse.
C. cyanopluera, femaleHi there, here’s my new guy or girl. LFS said exquisite but I didn’t believe them. After online research I’m confused. Can you please help ID? Thanks.

Merci beaucoup!C. cyanopluera, female
thank you , would you say this is a female ?P. hemitaeniatus
No, fins have developed too much color.thank you , would you say this is a female ?
okay thank you, it was sold to me as a female. Should have known better. Maybe that explains some of the aggression that I am seeing from the P.Octotaenia male I already have. No, fins have developed too much color.
Octotaenia is a cut above the rest in the genus for aggression. It likely won't accept any other Paracheilinus in only a 60g tank.okay thank you, it was sold to me as a female. okay then will have to keep an eye on it and look for options if it gets worse.Octotaenia is a cut above the rest in the genus for aggression. It likely won't accept any other Paracheilinus in only a 60g tank.
If the tank was double that size, you might have a chance.
Male or female?C. adornatus
