How can I tell if my Scott's is a male or female I'm thinking of getting a next one

Finally got a decent pick on my newest wrasse. She hides in one of my rocks and only comes out when i feed.

She was very pale pink whit black on the back and top fun when i got her. Has colored up great the last two days. Just not sure if 30$ i spent on her was a deal or not. But im happy with her weather or not.

Your she is a he, its a male C. pylei. Yours is the variant from Cebu. The $30 is a pretty good price, not a steal, but a good price.

Nice. Ty very much. I love the coloring on him. Cant wait until he comes out more and doesnt always hide in the rock.

Another question. I have 4 female leopard wrasses. Will one of them turn into a male and change coloring?

4 of the same species or 4 different species?

Possible but not guaranteed if it's the former; not likely if it's the latter.

All 4 are the same kind.

2 small. 1 med. and 1 big. Med has been in the tank for over a yr. the large for about a week and a half. And the 2 small only 4 days. All are doing great and eating frozen mysis. The big and med ever eat pellets from the auto feeder. And nip at the tangs vegi clips

It is an immature male of either C. cyanopleura or ryukyuensis/lyukyuensis, as it appears to be developing the yellow on the flank.

Yes, C. ryukyuensis(the correct name) or C. lyukyuensis (as it is more commonly, but incorrectly listed as) is the yellow flanked wrasse.

Yes, as it matures its colors woll intensify, and if it truly is ryukyuensis, it will develop a prominant yellow blotch on its flanks.

Ok I got this dude under the pretenses that it was a "Christmas Wrasse" when it was a juvenile. I've had my doubts though.
I've said since day one it was a Red Lined wrasse.
Now that it's been 6months and has changed to what I'm assuming are his full adult colors, what do u guys think?

That is H. biocellatus, sold often as christmas wrasse, red christmas wrasse, or red line wrasse. The common names for this guy make a strong argument for using Latin names.

But yes, it's H. biocellatus. Call it whatever common name you want...

There are other species also sold as a "Christmas wrasse" too. And they're all different and not created equal.

He's great and all but a "Christmas wrasse" in the books looks way better in adult coloration

His colors will still intensify, your specimen is still quite immature.

Alright that was the other thing I was wondering.
I was also reading they sometimes nip at clams and sps. I'm glad he's not doing that
