What are the biggest factors that you consider when adjusting the flow of your reef aquarium?

Corals and sand are my primary considerations in that order.
 
Waste removal. If you have enough flow for this you probably have enough for corals.
 
Definitely for corals. Acropora in particular grow faster in higher flow.
