Well, you could be like me and live in a rural area and the only fish saltwater store is Petco . Don't give up on your relationship with your local fish store. Cheers!

I had a bit of a fallout with my LFS today, and I guess I'm just looking to vent. I've been going there for years, but they kind of made me feel bad today. I message them on Facebook because it's the quickest way to contact them, however I don't have a Facebook. My friend or kids will let me use theirs when I need to ask something, but I always state that it is me. Apparently this confused them and made them uneasy. They also told me I am no longer able to trade things in there, because a lot of what I traded in has died. I am not sure how this is my fault, when I bring healthy specimens, and they have the right to observe them before credit is given. It's awkward now, and I feel like I've been criminalized when I've done nothing wrong. Thanks for letting me vent.
Often time they also have bad things going one, and that reflect on how they treat folks. Have mercy. We are here for you to be heard. Things are just not rational sometimes. I'll say give it some time, and see if things get better, if not move on. If you do your best, angels can do no better

I understand why you're upset and I think it's reasonable but I would still give them another chance. Lfs are so valuable and yet people have absurdly high expectations sometimes. Perfect customer service, perfect selection, perfect tanks, perfect prices, perfect location, etc.

OK so this gained a little more traction than I thought it would so I wanted to update.

With regards to the first fish store (the one with the trade in issue), I went in there tonight and the other owner was working. It was a very pleasurable experience, not awkward at all, and he helped me one on one for a half hour.

The second fish store with the light issue, yeah I'm not gonna lie that still annoys me. It was downright rude, whether he was having a good day or bad.

Moral of the story, I'm not saying all LFS are good or bad. Nothing in life is as concrete as that, and everyone deserves a chance. No specific stores were mentioned. I just wanted to vent to those who may have had a similar experience.

Lol, I got kicked out of a fish store for bringing in a beverage. I was the only person in the store or even in the parking lot of the store. The guy had a terrible attitude. I said fine, I will take my business down the road and that's exactly what I did. I kinda feel sorry for people that venture into the LFS biz, But when they have no common sense, then it gets kinda weird. I drove to another lfs about an hour and a half drive, and spent a few hundred dollars. I had a couple of chromis out of my purchase that didn't make it. I made the trip back to spend some more money and maybe get a small credit for the couple of Chromis that didn't make it (an hour and a half drive) Maybe $20 in gas round trip. The idiot was rude and refused a small credit. He made it clear that the livestock guarantee was for online purchases only (web site didn't specify that). I literally spent a few hundred dollars at another store down the street that day. 6 Months later he was out of business. I guess his fancy degree in Marine Biology didn't include People skills or Customer Service. I always laugh at the idiot in my mind, when I think of him. I was in the process of stocking a new tank, I liked his store enough that I made a second road trip to spend money and all he could think about was that I was there to screw him out of $12. I hope he's making french fries and burger king now.
