So I was wondering if there is a correlation between duration and intensity or a longer duration and lower intensity vs high intensity and shorter duration l?
Id like to hear some thoughts on this too and see some scientific articles. "cumulative Par" makes very little sense me. I woiuldnt think you can keep an acro in 25 par for 24 hours to equal the 250 par it needs as 8 hours.
as long as the intensity threshold (i.e. par 250 average and greater for most sps), and the duration threshold (>4 hrs) is met, I would think the rest would depend on other factors (namely nutrient load) in the tank.
thats anecdotal, perhaps someone with more reef science background can dig up pertinent literature
This article addresses somewhat your question; good read; but it is fairly complicated and not fully understood...

Some reef aquaria 'experts' have suggested that we understand all we need to know about lighting of reef aquaria. This article will suggest otherwise.
