light height question

im running a 8" tank and a 250watt metal halide with a aquamaxx 14k.. ( wanting to run a sps dominate tank)about what height should the bulb be off the water.. i ask bulb height because reflectors vary.. thanks

With a tank that shallow I am unsure. Usually it is 8" or so off of the water surface.... Do you have access to a PAR meter? If anyone around you has one I would try to borrow/rent it and just play around with the light height.
