I'm looking for some help with ideas for a light mount for my radions using 8020. I don't want to use the RMS mounts because I feel they are still in the way in my overflow and they tend to sag with the weight of the radions. I have two XR15s and I want to just do one straight pole up the back center behind the tank. Then ideally come over the top of the tank ending with a bar going left and right where I mount the radions on. Honestly, its really like Pelphrey's design but want to make it adjustable if possibly. That design seems great but I want to do a couple things different. Maybe you all can help. So what might be the easiest way to make the overa height adjustable and the length over the tank adjustable (moving the lights more to the front or back).
The last thing is I can't screw this into the stand because its not wood. Its the aluminum stand from Innovative Marine. It's not standard extruded aluminum so I can't anchor the light mount to it using fasteners and I don't want to modify the stand and void my warranty on it. So I thought, strap the light mount to the wall behind the tank. Problem is, my house uses metal framing instead of wooden studs so the metal studs are way too thin to mount something to safely. I'm thinking of using several toggle anchors and going overkill to attach it to drywall. Any suggestions as to what brackets to use to secure the main upright to the wall. I figured I'd secure it in two places over the total length.
