Starting my tank up soon, plan to have leather coral and pulsing xenia as well. What is the best light for a 36 inch 50 gallon tank..? Might want hard coral too eventually, but I don't know yet.. would like something that is programmable, I enjoy all those settings like day and night and stuff..

For $250, I would go with a pair of the nicer Chinese Black Boxes or a 4 bulb T5 setup. Either can be enough for what you want to keep.

You might not be able to find anything that is super programmable for $250.

AR, I have older simple black boxes. They work fine for softy corals & even light loving stony's as well. All one needs to do is turn the lights up ! I'm sure you can get newer more controllable lights like this for a reasonable cost .
If I may ask a question also, What would be a good general par for anemones ?

So something like this? Would I need 165 or 300?

I have not used the light you are looking at. It does not have all the bells and whistles you mentioned in the post from this past Saturday but is dimmable and a decent warranty.
VIPARSPECTRA Timer Control Series LED Aquarium Light Dimmable Full Spectrum for Coral Reef

***Perhaps someone who has one could chime in***

Anemones do well with PAR value of ~400 - 800

An E Quad can do well under a nice T5
