I have a 24 inch black box type led over my 40 breeder. The tank is 36 inches long. The light does fine, but I have all my coral(just softies, leathers, shrooms) right in the middle of the tank. Do they have to be right under the light? I have space on both ends, and along the front of the tank, I would like to place stuff.

Those lights are extremely powerful. You can research on Google for their par ratings. I had them before, I ran them at 20 white, 60 blue, 12" over my tank.

Agree with jekyl. People can argue about spectrum or longevity but most of those black boxes are very powerful and should not have any issue supporting softies at the edges of 40B
