Lionfish feeding?

Before I take the plunge my question is when you go away will these guys eat pellets occasionally? I have an Eheim Feeding station. It says the Eheim should not be used with frozen foods.

Feed it live food sometimes that is my plan. or that not good?

Frozen Food Rods Fish Food; Krill chunks... anything else?

Just curious on how to feed it when I go away for like a week.

Also acclimation I am guessing drip method for like 1.5hrs

When I had a large Lionfish, no more lol, I used to acclimate black mollies to saltwater a few weeks before a trip. Pop 4-5 small ones in there before I left and it was fed. Maybe had 1-2 when I got back, but mollies are curious and had no idea they were about to be eaten. Not saying it will work for you, but it did work for me.

That is a good idea it is a Fuzzy Dwarf

I am thinking of getting 1 male and 3 female mollies and put them in my sump. However, first acclimate them using a small tank. A good idea or no?

Not sure on that. Freshwater I ran before salt was all aggressive or large fish. Only used mollies for feeders.

Sounds cruel but I feed my fuzzy every 2-3 days I stuff him tho when I feed super plum belly, in the wild it’s harder than we think to catch live food im sure I could push a few more days in special occasions if I’m not home, I got a 2nd fuzzy that lasted almost 2 weeks without eating and that’s not counting his trip to from the ocean to my tank, he was rejecting everything but once he got a taste he begs now

Want to make this a predator tank so my plan is getting an Sargassum Fish or another angler and maybe an eel that be all for my tank. That too much? It's a Red Sea Max which I think is 37 gallons. I do have a 20 gallon sump as well. Basically will have all corals; one Lionfish; one angler; one eel.

Anglers with Lions compatible according to liveaquaria. However, eels not compatible with Anglers well it says caution.. curious on why?

Fuzzy ? Both of mine are a bit too small for whole shrimps but I have frozen silverside I was also tossing in shrimps from time to time but only doing frozen krill once or twice a week and silverside most of the feeds tho. The frozen silverside from San Francisco Bay have very nice filled guts. On occasions when I’m close to petco I grab a few live shrimps for them.

Mysis might not be too good for them unless they are getting a whole cube on their on.

Again I will sounf cruel but I wish Clown fishes become the next feeder fish for saltwater predators

Wao that is very!!! Nice!!! Tank inspiring why don’t more people have lionfish in their reefs! Oh yeah they will take a bite at everything lol! Definitely inspired I’m currently looking for a fumanchu

My tank is mostly sps with high flow and they seem fine they actually swim more than what I thought. Something nice about these fishes I was feeding daily to get them used to me tapping the tank the lil one is starting to learn that means dinner time my bigger fuzzy knows 2 tops in the edge of my tank means dinner he storms out from were ever he’s at to the top of the tank they are like dogs love these fishes.

If you are planning a long trip feed him well before you leave and have a serving for someone to try and feed him in between the week I’m sure 3-4 days without eating won’t kill him

Personally I hate that tank, it was thrown together for a photo opt. Everything died and gives people the wrong inspiration, that's a 40 breeder with 3 lionfish, an antennata which gets more than 7" and I wouldn't keep a zebra in a 40 either which can also reach 7". A snowflake eel and tomini tang and the clowns. The fu manchu and the clowns are the only fish that should be kept in a 40 breeder. Really think about, inspiration like this is why so many people fail.

What I was told the Fuzzy ones get bigger than Fu Manchu but have a smaller mouth so actually wrasses be fine and possible bigger clowns. However, fu Manchu no way they will eat bigger fish because of there mouth. My legs told me 30 gallons or more for one Fuzzy. Is he wrong?

He also said either be fine for 30 gallons or larger if your ok with not having small fish but limited to that tank size. A wrasse maybe fine with fuzzy but not a fu Manchu he said

A fuzzy is a very active swimming fish when kept in an adequate size tank, your 37g is more of a cube and they would like more horizontal swimming room, like a 50 or 55g. A fu would be ok in your 37g but the fu has their own challenges, mainly feeding and many can't keep them alive at all. Wrasses that would fit in your tank is a nono for either, they can easily eat any slender body fish 2/3rds their own size. Clarkii clowns are safe and possibly other clowns if sized appropriately and the lion is gotten at a smaller size and solidly trained to eat dead food.
