I have a Max E 170. Recently set up. Which pods and how many would you recommend me adding?

Good morning. Recently set up would imply that you do not probably have much in the line of corals and filter feeders, so no huge benefit to adding the Premium or Titanic with the rotifers added so I would go with blended, or Colossal. 16Oz would be sufficient a 32 Oz if budget allows would be awesome. Then get a 32 Oz phyto to dose minimum of 32 Oz per day would last 1 month to feed and nourish the pods to help them colonize, if you already have some corals you might want to dose 65 Oz a day so a half gallon, 64 Oz, would last you a month. The phyto will last longer in the fridge cap loose and shaken daily when dosing. I based these dosing measures on Display Tank volume (my red seas run pretty close to DT volume as total system volume after set up due to displacement) so 1-2ml per day per gallon tank volume.

as a first time buyer, how do i know i'm getting 50% more? how would i compare & measure pod density?

Fair question. The straight answer is integrity. We hold ourselves to the highest standard of honesty and integrity.

I have a set harvest method of drawing 1 gallon for every 3/4 gallon we produce for a finished product. In the 50% we draw 1.5 gallons for every 3/4 gallons.

Of course culture density can vary from harvest to harvest, even when we don’t offer 50% more. I know from the sieve and visual inspection what the harvest looks like and adjust accordingly. Early on we used a Sedgwick rafter slide for counts and now occasionally use them to measure our culture densities. We use this method vs additional bottles and weight because the increased shipping would make it unsustainable at this stage of our business, and at the low prices we offer.

Here is a video from 10/30. This would be a normal harvest.



Also know the density of species will vary from week to week, and we sieve at very small microns which means you receive every life stage of each species. We believe this is the reason some customers achieve colonization as shown in the following video, use with their permission. He sent this when he told me he had gotten uronema in his tank, and was going to have to start all over.

This customer had ordered our pods once, 3-4 weeks prior.



If we lacked integrity we could say buy one get one, and yet dilute our harvest shipping the same amount of pods in a larger water volume. IMO businesses that practice those types of practices don’t stay in business very long.
