You can, but it's best to wait.. I doubt you'll have much of a cycle with the rock being already established.

Can I get a cleanup crew prior to the tank cycling? I just put the rock in last night.

I am not an expert ut I say yes. I put the sand, rock and water in my tank and within three days I went and got a small cleanup crew and threw a frozen silverside in there two. It took my tank 9 days to cycle and everything read 0. If you have that much rock, with that much life on it, I see no problem.

Picked up the rock earlier today, brought it home and picked, plucked and used an algae scrubber and got all of it off. And besides the Algae, this rock had a lotttt of life on it. There are Zoas and Shrooms covering this stuff!

Also, it was more around 110# when I brought it home and weighed it. Yes, it is all in the tank for now but I will be needing to get rid of some of it soon b/c it is WAY too much for a 55gal in my opinion. I want more room for my fishies to swim. Any takers?
you ever come down to TN?

I don't...sorry :-(

Thanks for the responses using the cleaner crew. The 2 LFS I go to say that it is going to take roughly 2-3 weeks for everything to read 0 and then I will most likely have a brown algae outbreak and etc...

Told me not to put anything in the tank for a month so I was like...**** ha.

my 135 just cycled about 2 weeks ago.. and the brown algae there talking about isnt algae its diatom blooms. happens to all saltwater tanks after they cycle... i cycled my tank with cheap fish like damsels.

No need for damsels, especially if you're using live rock.

i used damsels and live rock..

I'm not saying you can't do it... Simply saying that there's no need to make the fish deal with ammonia as it really doesn't do anything for the cycle itself. Also, most people don't want damsels in their display (chromis aside) because of how mean they get.
