Live rock vs toothbrush? Newbie

I read online, that people take a new never used 5 gallon bucket, and scrub current live rock with a new toothbrush to remove dead particles? Is this true? Does any1 do this? When, how often. thankyou.

Are you talking about what is already in display?
I have an electric toothbrush that is actually meant for aquarium use, I may use that to hit spots of hair algae if ever needed, that's more so on a newer tank going through typical issues, rarely use it, but a regular toothbrush will work for that too.
Some do clean dietrus from live rock, siphon, point a powerhead or small pump maybe, or fan debris off, or even just having good flow can do that, just sometimes you may need to assist if there are dead spots and dietrus builds in areas.
Good to have 5g buckets dedicated to the tank, they don't need to be brand new, just free of solvents or anything harmful

Ah. Yeah, the live rocks i speak of have been in tank for 6 mnths, i thought thebarticle.was saying to pull them out and soft scrub them? Hmmmmm. Theres no hair algae. There just the typical brown. So leave them alone then?

That's a good thing to do :) I do it too!
I only scrub new live rock when it has algae on it or I'm treating bubble algae with peroxide.
IMO it's worth spending the extra money on new live rock rather than used.

Great idea, I am going to try this on my problem algae...
