I have a 5 gal AquaTop cube. I'm looking to replace the internal filter with something that affords me a little more flexibility (flow/filtration). I only have a small fire fish, 2 hermits, turbo, 2 Nass. I have two small frags and LR. How much is to much flow? How much should I have?

A small skimmer such as icecap k-1 and an aqueon bio-filter should suffice and serve you should you upgrade down the road

An aquaclear 20 or 30 would give you the flow you need and you could also put a smile heater in it.

I think a skimmer in a tank this small would just look silly haha.

I run my 2 gallon pico jar tank with the Eheim 350 surface skimmer and live rock only. Depending on what you want to keep in there, this might work for you, too. I just do monthly water changes of half a gallon. I am able to grow softies, a chalice and birdsnest in there.
