I am getting ready to set up by 57 gallon tank with built in overflow. The sump will be a 40 gallon (will use it as a frag tank also). I would like to know which sump pump (return pump) you all would recommend (Model and Brand).

I am not sure as I have seen things telling me you should turn the water over 40-50 times, which means I would need a 2000+ GPH pump which seems high to me. Other articles seem to call out 20x which would be 1140.

Thanks y'all.

You want SLOW flow through the sump. Ideally you want 10x (or less) turnover based on the SUMP volume, not the display volume. If you are using your sump for a frag tank then you may want a little bit more flow. I also like Eheim pumps best for return pumps. Small, quiet, efficient, and don't get too hot like other pumps can.

Also check out the Laguna Max-Flo series. I am getting one to use on my 225 I will be setting up. Very low wattage for the amount of water they move.

these are the bomb!!!! there askoll based motors.... i run a airstar 3200gph for a return..... its a laguna 2900 motor with a atb motor block "volute"

Does the Laguna Max-Flo rattle around in the sump ? I didnt see any suction cups or anything to hold it in its place.

So from what I can tell I would be looking at:

Laguna Max-Flo 600
Eheim 792GPH 1101 Compact+ Pump 3000

Both seem rated about 600GPH. Sound about right ?

Check out the Octopus Water Blaster pumps too. Three year warranty, low power consumption and relatively small.

I would go with an Eheim 1260. Love my 1262, but it runs a 120. I would think the 1260 would be perfect for a 57. QUIET.

No you would have to make something for it. I needed an internal with at least 3000 gph so I am going with the 4200. I am going to make an acrylic holder for it with rubber feet when I get it.
