Looking for skimmer suggestions

My waterbox 110 is currently skimmerless. I’m looking for a way to help export organic before they break down into po4 so I don’t have to rely on GFO as much.

Ive never had a skimmer but I understand there are just short of enough options to make one’s head spin. The recurring theme I see when I read reviews is either “this skimmer sucks I can’t get it to do its job, it’s finicky” or “this is the best product I’ve ever purchased”

I’m looking for long term use reviews from all of you. The only spot on my sump I have space is the refugium. It’s 6x12. I was looking to sacrifice half of this space so I can keep my chaeto going. So a 6x6 footprint would be a main limitation.

So far I’m looking at the Bubble Magus B100 or the Maxspect Jump SK-200

Your choices are pretty limited with a 6x6 footprint. Depending on your bioload, they are likely on the small size for your tank. That said, the Bubble Magnes specs are better, but have no experience with them.

My experiences are with Bubble King and Reef Octopus. Both excellent skimmers. They are pricey and don't think there's one that fits your footprint beside the Reef Octopus Classic 110SSS that comes close. Still a bit on the small size though.

I’ve always read that it’s better to have undersized skimmers rather than oversized. Kind of where my thought process was with not being to concerned of a smaller skimmer

I have a bubble magus and it works really well. Can be difficult to tune at first since the stand pipe doesn’t turn super easy, but once it’s dialed in it much to worry about.

Reef Octopus is another good brand that I have used, but as noted above it might be tough to find one that will fit.

I have also used IceCap and had a really good experience with them. I like it over bubble magus because it has a Venturi so you can add a CO2 scrubber.

Thanks doc. A c02 scrubber is something on my to do list, and that’s great food for thought

I had a Bubble Magus Curve 3 Extreme and recently switched it out to a Reef Octopus 110INT. It’s a night and day difference! The Reef Octo is such a better skimmer! I would try really hard to see if you can find a Reef Octo that will fit, if it were me.

I have this Reef Octopus Regal 330 INT skimmer for my 400 gallon tank for 10 years. It is a great skimmer and a work horse. Obviously, this is too big a footprint for your tank, but I highly recommend Reef Octopus skimmers. :)
