Thank you Denise, a life spent in the Navy gave me the outlook it can always be worse lol... Retired after 25 year so a little fire while painful with the loss of things that could not be replaced, there is plenty that can. I am sure I will make an even better tank of this now one ordered, just going to take my time and make it everything I want. Got it in white like the wife asked me to do, the rest is up to me.

I was premature on the loss of the younger cat, everything was crazy during that time, the emergency vet we took the younger one to told us he would not make it. We were lucky that a senior vet came in and taught the younger vet about water injections, which we were told saved him. We were able to take him home a few day later.

Yes, he is my orange cat, my buddy, I think I posted on the 23rd he was saved. now we have a black and white, grey tiger stipe and a snowshoe. Rhino went nuts when we bought home 3 kittens, he was mad for week. but now all is good.

The prices were come to my the private company I hired to handle my loss. Some prices are high in my option and some are low, but in the end it really didn't matter I was covered foe 125k in property loss and had over 167k in losses. So as you acquire more stuff keep your insurance updated it was something I really never thought of. and remember most insurance will no cover anything that is alive. So on top of this list I would add about 8-9k in live stock.

Once My new tank and light arrive I will start a build thread, I think the 525xl will be a fun little tank to play with.

Sorry for the loss! Glad to hear you are coming back and into a new house.

I also have two of these timers and will be pulling them off line and replacing with something else. I got them with a tank buy, but figured I would use them elsewhere. No more!

Thank you, yes we lost everything we owned and one of our cats passed but the wife and I were fine (happened while we were at work), plus everything points to the powerstip/timer. But I doubt USAA will get anything, my research shows no one has received a dime from any power strip company. The thing that hurt hobby wise was all the livestock none of that is covered, there was approx. 8-9 k there alone. I just bought a lot of items from sponsors here, I think I had the J. Fox items about 12 days. Next to my cat the loss of Herman my Gem Tang hurts the most. But in the end we are fine and moved on and have a whole lot less clutter and the move was easy.

No there was no salt creep, the was away from the tank and only up 5-6 days.

I feel for you... I had multiple coralife strips in the past. I feel like I dodged a bullet. We need to get threads like this into a sticky or something like that. I hate to think what could've happened to you guys if this strip failed at 3am while you were sleeping. I am very happy you are ok and this thread has me rethinking my electrical setup.

I had something similar happen with the exact same power strip about 5 years ago. At he time I had a HOB skimmer. It started to slightly overflow and drip down my tank, into the stand and drip right into one of the outlets. I woke up to a cracking noise and thought someone was trying to break in. As I headed downstairs I started smelling smoke. I called 911 and they came and thought maybe there was an electrical fire in the walls but we all heard the cracking noose while they were there. We found the problem just in time. The water was causing the power strip to melt and was almost on fire. I c Allen Zoomed and the told me it's not a surge protector. I could've lost everything. If I didn't wake up things could've been a lot worse with myself and my 2 kids sleeping. Lesson learned

That suuuuucks! I see the power strip is "currently unavailable". You might consult a lawyer, could be others who lost property as well.

I recall when I was younger, I went to a church youth group thing, we were exiting the main hall to go back to our cabin. Everyone was stopping at the door. As I poked my head around the corner, I saw why they all stopped. Our cabin was completely in flames!! lol
That was one of the reasons I always try to have at least 1 backup solution to everything.. Though you lost your tank, be thankful it put out the fire! (losing everything else would have sucked more!)

Wow! So sorry for your loss. It is so painful to lose our pets. I also have the same one on my tank, for probably 15 years now, maybe longer! On top of that, I had a jank light start on fire over my tank once also, luckily I happened to be standing right there when it happened and it went out as fast as it started.
