Do you think it would be worth the time and money to fix it for bean? Vs just Plug and add gate to current (This is my first "large" tank and attempt with coral)

Ya Id probably have to do left as main as that drain wont fit a U shape where the right will. Looks like first chamber is for refuge. So something like this

Where does your skimmer fit?
I'll test tomorrow, but dimensions matched the skimmer section

Overall Dimensions - 34" L x 15" W x 15" H
  • Refugium Section - 15.25" x 14.5"
  • Skimmer Section - 10.5" x 14.5"
  • Return Section - 5" x 14.5"

Reef Octopus 6" Classic 150INT Skimmer CLSC-150INT
  • Dimensions: 12" x 8.5" x 22.13"

Ya socks come out fine. Just gotta pull down some bc the pipe goes in water a few inches

Drains into socks only need go under the water 1", so feel free to cut them for easier sock maintenance.

So sock chamber is big enough for the skimmer?
If so, run the skimmer in the sock chamber. Then you can run the secondary drain to the second chamber and maybe even use as a pseudo refuge, but the flow won't be ideal for a true 'fuge. Better than nothing.
Or better yet, use the after-skimmer chamber for reactors and forget a 'fuge altogether

Ya both chambers big enough for skimmer. So gonna use first chamber as Fuge and next chamber for skimmer since thats what manufacture has it labeled as.

It's also recommended to not have socks before a 'fuge.
Having the skimmer after, without socks, will lead to a very dirty skimmer.
I gave up on an in-sump 'fuge years ago.

Hopefully eventually I can remove socks and go trident method I been reading about for low maintenance upkeep

Looking good so far. Do you have the secondary airline curving back to the water level?
For a Bean it needs to be held in place somewhere just above the back box running level. This way, as the level rises, the airline is blocked and allows the secondary to purge air and become a full siphon.

Sorry for late reply had to take apart for leak at box bulkhead.

Runs silent
My only question is why does the second line not seem to drain/siphon at all with bean style? I have airline curving to water level. I'm wondering if I should take off the U pipe and run secondary with a second straight pipe

I'm not much help at this point as I run a Herbie. But, it makes sense to me that, as long as the airline is out of the water, you need to raise the back box level high enough for a trickle to run down the secondary - closing the main gate some.
Then there still needs to be enough room in the box for the secondary to run a full siphon, and after that, you need still more room for the emergency to work without 'my cup runneth over' :p

If you remove the 90 with the airline, you'll essentially be running a Herbie with 2 emerg pipes.

Have a read through Bean's website for detailed instructions
