So I've been running T5's since before my kids were born, one is 21 now.
I loved the crisp, clear and clean look of the T5's and the colors too.
Recently I had to buy new bulbs and one of my fixtures needed to be replaced.
So I went against my old school ways and bought some LEDs.
I enjoy the flexibility of them but I have been messing with them every day for a month.
Just can't replicate the T5's and, honestly just don't like the colors.
That being said I also like dimly lit tanks.
I work under flourscents all day and I like to come home and turn on as few lights as possible.
Yesterday I found a super low light I enjoyed and want to go with that.
I have nothing in the tank that really requires high lighting and the room the tank is in has 5 windows and 3 other aquariums.
Would like to have opinions from others, see if anyone out there also runs/prefers the low lighting approach and if there are any issues you may have had from this approach.

Hi

No issues from my side but I prefer more lighting closer to the tank surface so it doesn't bother me.

Regards,

Exactly why I liked my T5's.
They just sat on top of the tank.
What lights are you running?

I would stick with the T5's.....

Hi

I'm running a couple of LEDs in my pico reef and they are about 3 inches from the surface. So far softies and LPS love it.

So I guess what I'm getting at here is am I suspect to anything running lights very low?
I know algae of all types use different light waves for photosynthesis as well as corals.
If the corals are doing just as well under low lighting what's the advantage of the higher light.
Should it be all blue?
I've always struggled with lighting and would like to see some tanks with dim lighting, if there are any.
Or someone just enlighten me.
