I was wondering if there is a way to lower the alk in my freshly mixed water for water changes. I really like the salt mix im using, but I would like to run my alk lower, and the mix im using runs about 10 dkh. I have been keeping alk in my system up to match the change out water, but I would like to run around 8 dkh. Anything I can do to lower the dkh in the newly mixed change out water?? I really don't want to change mixes if I don't have to.

Assuming you do 10% water changes or less, it isn't an issue, but you can lower the alk using muriatic acid or certain hobby brands, such as Seachem Acid Buffer

So if I was running my system at 8 dkh and my mix is 10, a 7% water change should not affect anything?

If you did the quoted above, your resulting dkh would be 8.14.

Edited: just realized you were probably meaning that going from 8-8.2 shouldn't affect anything. I agree.
