To deal with the excessive hair algae, I decided to get a molly. Currently in a quarantine tank and will be slowly acclimated to saltwater, before going into the tank this weekend. Should be interesting to see how this plays out with Luxo. I’m hoping she leaves it alone, but I’m counting on having to rehome the molly to my 40B almost immediately.

So this happened:

I have no idea how the molly even managed to get out of the acclimation box, but he must have been really determined to do so! I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how Luxo handles it. Right now she gives warning strikes whenever he approaches the anemone, but I don’t see any signs of overly belligerent behavior yet.

A couple split fins later, and I realized that this wouldn’t work out long term, so I moved the molly into the 40B. While the intention was to try a tankmate that was inexpensive and therefore wouldn’t be a huge loss if things went sideways, I wound up getting attached to the little fish over the past few days, so intervened before things got any worse. Oh well, worth a shot. I guess I’ll just have to continue manually removing the hair algae.
