I’m assuming this red stuff is macro algae, but what kind specifically?

And I’ve found one red mithrax in these rocks. I’m assuming this is another one? This one is half the size of the confirmed one. About 1/2 inch.

#1 looks like Chondria, though red, filamentous algae are incredibly diverse and can be hard to identify. This algae can go invasive.

#2 is a Mithrax crab

Do I spot brown macroalgae in the background?

It wouldn't be able to migrate from a refugium up to a display though, would it? (There's sponge between the refugium and return chamber.

Yeah. I'm waiting for it to grow a bit bigger so I can get a good picture of it. I don't presently have a macro lens for my phone.

The sponge will not catch all of the material passing from the refugium and the main display and I have had several species of macroalgae spread via spores.
Personally, I would wait to see whether the algae does grow uncontrollably or not before deciding to eliminate it.

Just grow it: Have you ever added CO2 to your reef tank?
