Macroalgae growing into side of Toadstool

So I was pulling bryopsis/hair algae off my macroalgae as one often does on a lazy Saturday afternoon, when I noticed something odd.
I tried pulling it out, and nothing happened. Should I cut it, leave it or what?
Anyone seen something like this before?
