Macroalgae Pico Tank

I’ve seen a lot of macroalgae tanks and they look beautiful and I love the movement they provide. I’ve thought about setting up a pico tank on my desk with macro and some inverts like shrimp and crabs. I can’t really add it to my other reef tanks because 1, they are pretty full, and 2 they are all bare bottom.

Unfortunately, I haven’t found a vendor that provides a variety of the different macro. Basically all I can find is Chaeto and dragon breath. Any recommendations? In terms of size, would 3 gallon be enough for those who have had success?

Try these two vendors: 3 G is fine. Less light is better than too much. I like 5-10K color spectrum.

Be prepared to dose nutrients.

I like red & green for contrast. My favorite green is a feather Caulerpa Paspaloides. I have had it sprout from diver collected live rock. You might consider some rubble rock to inoculate your pico tank.
