I’ve seen a lot of macroalgae tanks and they look beautiful and I love the movement they provide. I’ve thought about setting up a pico tank on my desk with macro and some inverts like shrimp and crabs. I can’t really add it to my other reef tanks because 1, they are pretty full, and 2 they are all bare bottom.

Unfortunately, I haven’t found a vendor that provides a variety of the different macro. Basically all I can find is Chaeto and dragon breath. Any recommendations? In terms of size, would 3 gallon be enough for those who have had success?

I like red & green for contrast. My favorite green is a feather Caulerpa Paspaloides. I have had it sprout from diver collected live rock. You might consider some rubble rock to inoculate your pico tank.

“Caulerpa paspaloides is a species of seaweed in the family Caulerpaceae. The species is native to the Caribbean Sea, Gulf of Mexico, and off the coast of northern Brazil.[1][2]

In red, I like
Bortacladia & Gracilaria Hayi.

Appreciate the advice! I have you tried the blue macro?

I have a ton of rock in all my sumps that I can break apart as well as some ceramic biomedia I can put into the rear section. I was looking yesterday at one of those PNW tanks. Seems like a good deal for a small desk top tank for my office.
