I have a 65 gallon system. I use Fritz products when it comes to dosing. but when It comes to Magnesium stability I really struggle. calcium and Alk I do very well with. I am currently using Kalkwasser. I dose 50 ML every hour currently and 7.5 of calcium. I was dosing roughly about 46 ml of MAG a day and its stable for a few months around about 1400... until about 2 weeks ago my Mag was testing at like 1600 and 1700. no coral changes at all if anything I added more coral. since then I have dropped my dosing down to 22ml a day and im still over 1500ppm. I thought It was a testing error so I got a different test kit and it was the same thing. why the heck would my magnesium do this? what can I do better to help my stability?

Magnesium is by its nature very stable, unless there are very large salinity changes or large amounts are added. Magnesium cannot rise on its own, and real magnesium consumption is 1/10th of the calcium consumption, or less.

While I do not know what magnesium product you are using, from the doses you are using (50 mL per day when only adding small amounts of calcium via the 7.5 mL
And the kalk)) you are adding way, way more magnesium than is being consumed. I’d stop all mag dosing for a long time.

I’d also stop the calcium alone. Kalk is actually overbalanced to more calcium than alk, and extra calcium should not be needed unless you are adding extra alk in some way.
